A Perth man appeared before Perth Magistrates Court yesterday (28 May, 2026) charged over alleged disorderly behaviour and obstructing a Commonwealth Official at Perth Airport.
The man, 55, came to police attention yesterday (28 May, 2026) after airline staff removed him from a flight due to alleged intoxication. When officers attempted to escort him from the terminal, he allegedly became aggressive, swinging his arm and elbow toward police and narrowly missing an officer.
Officers arrested the man and took him to Perth Watch House, where he was charged with:
* One count of obstructed a Commonwealth Official, contrary to section 149.1 of the Criminal Code (Cth). This offence carries a maximum of penalty of two years' imprisonment; and
* One count of disorderly behaviour in a public place, contrary to section 74A Criminal Code Act Compilation Act 1913 (WA). This offence carries a maximum penalty of a $6,000 fine.
The man was granted bail and is next due to appear in Perth Magistrates Court on 26 June, 2026.
AFP Detective Acting Superintendent Peter Brindal said being at an airport or preparing to travel was not an excuse to ignore the law, and disruptive behaviour would result in police action.
"It is not acceptable to engage in disorderly or inappropriate conduct at any airport in Australia, and the AFP will take action to ensure the safety and confidence of passengers and airport staff," Det a/Supt Brindal said.
"Travellers are expected to act responsibly and respect those around them. Failure to do so can lead to serious consequences - from missing your flight to facing criminal charges and possible time in custody."

* Taking photos of security cameras, screening, or perimeter fencing
* Avoiding screening
* Leaving bags unattended
* Loitering
* Concealing identity
* Exhibiting erratic behaviour
