CANBERRA, ACT, Feb. 2 -- Australian Federal Police issued the following media release:
A Somalia-born man is set to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates' Court today (2 February, 2026) charged with allegedly failing to comply with his visa-mandated curfew conditions and not ensuring his monitoring device remained in good working order.
The AFP charged the man, 32, today (2 February, 2026), after he was located in Melbourne.
It will be alleged he breached the conditions of his Commonwealth visa between 15 January, 2026, and 21 January, 2026.
He has been charged with:
* Three counts of failing to comply with visa curfew conditions, contrary to section 76C(1) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth); and * Seven counts of failing to maintain electronic monitoring device, contrary to section 76D(3) of the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).
Each offence carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment and/or a $99,000 fine.
