CANBERRA, ACT, March 16 -- Australian Federal Police issued the following media release:
A Queensland man is expected to appear in Brisbane Magistrate's Court today (16 March, 2026) charged with obstructing police and behaving in a disorderly manner at Brisbane Airport last month.
The AFP responded to a request for assistance on 11 February, 2026, after the Mackay region man, 40, was allegedly aggressive towards an airport staff member in the Brisbane Domestic Airport terminal.
When approached by AFP officers, the man allegedly refused to follow requests or instructions, and was arrested.
On 12 February, 2026, he was released from police custody and issued a notice to appear to face the following charges:
* One count of assault or obstruct police, contrary to section 790 of the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act (Qld); and* One count of public nuisance, contrary to section 6(1) of the Summary Offences Act (Qld).
The maximum penalty for each offence is six months imprisonment.
AFP Acting Superintendent Kurt Wesche said there was zero tolerance for abusive behaviour in airports.
"Our airports are a shared space and airport staff should not be subjected to verbal abuse or any other bad behaviour," a/Supt Wesche said.
"The AFP works closely with our partners in the airline industry to intervene if anyone's behaviour in or around an airport becomes aggressive and stops other people form working or using the area."
