Belconnen, ACT, Nov. 23 -- ACT Policing issued the following media release:
ACT Policing is investigating aftera man waslocateddeceased aftershooting atpolice last night.
About 7:50pm (Saturday 22 November 2025) police attended a residence on Galloway Street in Isabella Plains to arrest a 71-year-old man for serious family violence offencesheallegedly committed against his partner earlier that day. The partner is presently receiving treatment for her injuries at hospital.
When police arrived, the man fired multiple shots at officers.Police returned firebeforethe manbarricaded himself inside a shed on the property.
Those officersattemptedto speak to themanbut he refused to engage with police.Nearby residents were evacuated bypoliceand the street wascordonedoff.
TheAFP Tactical Response Team,Bomb ResponseTeamandspecialist negotiatorsattendedto negotiate with the manbut after gaining entry to the shed at about11:50pm, the man waslocateddeceasedwithsuspectedself-inflicted injuries. An autopsy will be conducted at a later time to determine the cause of death.
This matter is being treated as a criticalincidentand the circumstances are being investigated by ACT Policing's Criminal Investigations and AFP Professional Standards.A Coroner has also been notified and is overseeing the investigation.
No officers were injured during theincidentandAFP SHIELD welfare services have been arranged to supportthe officers involved.
