Queensland Police Service, with assistance from the Australian Federal Police (AFP) and National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), has extradited and charged a man following investigations into the alleged attempted bribery of a public official.
On 9 July, it is alleged a 39-year-old Chinese national attempted to bribe a Commonwealth public official during a business meeting in Camp Hill.
Police allege that during the meeting, the man handed the woman a bag of tea, which was later found to contain $20,000 cash.
It will be further alleged the attempted bribery was for business gain.
Upper Mount Gravatt Criminal Investigation Branch Detectives established Operation Yankee Borderlands in response to a report of crime from the woman and commenced joint investigations with the AFP and NACC.
On 24 July, investigators arrested the 39-year-old man as he attempted to board a flight at Sydney International Airport.
On Saturday, 25 July, the Queensland Police Service successfully applied for the man's extradition during an appearance at Surry Hills, Bail Division Court of New South Wales, and he was extradited back to Queensland on Saturday evening.
The man is expected to appear before Brisbane Magistrates Court today, 27 July, on one count of gift or offer a secret commission to an agent, contrary to s. 442BA(b) of the Criminal Code.
