A 24-year-old Latham manwho was subject to bail and goodbehaviourorders, has been charged with multiple offencesfollowingan alleged attempted carjacking incident in Melba yesterday.

About 2.15pm yesterday (Monday, 26 January 2026) police were called toKingsford Smith Drive in Melba followingreports of a man brandishing alarge knife. After a short footpursuit,the mandropped the knife he was carrying andwas arrested.

Officerssubsequentlyspoke to multiple witnesses who alleged the man had previouslyattemptedto steal a vehicle by threatening a driver at knifepoint, however hefailed todo so as hecouldn'tstart the vehicle.

The man was charged with breach of bail, breach of a goodbehaviourorder, possession of stolen property,possessoffensive weapon with intent,attemptedaggravated robbery, propertydamageandintentional threat to inflict grievous bodily harm.He is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court today (Tuesday, 27 January 2026).
