BRISBANE, Queensland, Oct. 13 -- The Queensland Department of the Premier and Cabinet issued text of the following statement:
Treasurer, Minister for Energy and Minister for Home Ownership
The Honourable David Janetzki
* The Crisafulli Government has delivered reforms to make it easier for Queenslanders to purchase a new home and achieve the dream of home ownership.
* The reformsapply common sense so that Queenslanders acting in good faith are not deprived of a fair outcome because of a technicality.
* More than 52,500 homes under construction across the State, the fourth consecutive record quarter for Queensland's housing pipeline.
* The former Labor Government's decade of decline created Queensland's Housing Crisis, which saw the State slide to the bottom of the home ownership ladder.
The Crisafulli Government is delivering a place to call home for moreQueenslanders by delivering common sense reforms aimed at removing barriers to help more people unlock the dream of home ownership.
The Home Ownership and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2026, passed by the Parliament tonight, will simplify existing laws to open the door to home ownership for more Queenslanders, including byenabling a buyer to be eligible for a first homeowner concession if there is an existing shed on the otherwise vacant land.
The Bill also simplifies technicalities that could disqualify a first home buyer purchasing a newly constructed home because of the way it has passed between a developer and builder.
For a decade, the formerLabor Governmentwatched Queensland slide to the bottom of the national home ownership ladder, leaving a generation of Queenslanders wondering whether owning their own home would ever be possible.
The Crisafulli Government is supporting first home buyers at every stage of the housing journey - from saving for a deposit, to reducing upfront purchase costs, through to increasing supply of new homes.
The Crisafulli Government is tackling both sides of the housing equation by helping more Queenslanders buy their first home while investing billions to increase housing supply, including 166,000 homes unlocked by thenation-leading $2 billion Residential Activation Fund.
The latest quarterly Australian Bureau of Statistics data also reveals a record 52,500 homes under construction in Queensland, the fourth consecutive record for the State's housing pipeline.
The number of homes under construction has grown by more than 35 per cent in two years - the largest increase in any State by far.
Since the Crisafulli Government abolished stamp duty for eligible first home buyers on new homes, more than 3,500 Queenslanders had benefited by June, saving more than $66 million.
The early results are promising, with a KPMG report finding the proportion of Queenslanders who lived in a home they owned lifted from 63.9 per cent in 2021 to 64.9 per cent in 2025.
The Crisafulli Government is continuing to pull every lever to deliver a place to call home for more Queenslanders after Labor's decade of decline created the Housing Crisis.
Treasurer and Minister for Home Ownership David Janetzki said that while some of the reforms seemed small, they will make a big difference to Queenslanders wanting to purchase a home.
"We are the party of home ownership and we make no apologies for wanting more Queenslanders to experience the security, stability and opportunity that comes with owning their own home," Treasurer Janetzki said.
"These reforms apply some common sense so that well-intentioned Queenslanders acting in good faith are not deprived of a fair outcome because of a technicality.
"We are pulling every lever we can as a Government to deliver more Queenslanders a place to call home."
The Bill cleans up outdated references, corrects drafting anomalies and removes obsolete processes in existing revenue legislation.
It also makes amendments to ensure eligible current and former Defence Force personnel are treated consistently when applying for vehicle registration duty relief.
