CANBERRA, ACT, Oct. 14 -- The Treasurer of Australia issued the following media release:
Tomorrow I will join international counterparts in Bangkok for the IMF‑World Bank Group Annual Meetings and G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting.
This is all about working with other countries to manage the economic impacts of the war and global uncertainty, meeting my new counterparts in UK and Indonesia for the first time and boosting investment.
In Bangkok, I will call for an end to the conflict in the Middle East and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz because that's what the global economy desperately needs.
The war in the Middle East is having a devastating economic impact and is pushing up fuel prices, inflation and interest rates around the world.
I will have my first meetings with the UK Chancellor of the Exchequer, the Rt Hon John HealeyMP and Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Suahasil Nazara since their recent appointments.
Australia has a close friendship with both the UK and Indonesia and I look forward to building on the deep and trusting relationship we have with both countries.
I'll discuss opportunities to boost investment in economic security with international partners and will be promoting our region as a premier investment destination.
A more stable global economy, stronger relationships with our partners and more investment and are good for Australian businesses and workers and will be the focus of this trip.
While in Bangkok, I will take part in around 13 separate meetings and engagements in 9hours.
I will also meet with:
* Ajay Banga, President, World Bank Group* Lars Klingbeil, Vice‑Chancellor and Federal Minister of Finance, Germany* Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Thailand* Institutional investors as part of their investor mission to Southeast Asia as part of Invested: Australia's Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040
Global economic cooperation and a more resilient global economy are good for Australia.
The Albanese Government is focused on managing global uncertainty, addressing inflation and boosting productivity and resilience, and our international engagements are an important part of that.
