BRISBANE, Queensland, Oct. 15 -- Queensland Police Service issued the following media release:

It's the spookiest time of the year, with little ghouls and goblins getting ready to descend on the streets to celebrate a spook-tacular night of Halloween festivities.

While it's all about chills and thrills, the Queensland Police Service (QPS) are reminding all residents and community members to keep safety at their minds because, safety never goes out of fang-shion!

Follow these tips to keep your night frightfully fun and safe:

Trick-or-treaters

For those who'd like visits from little monsters, please download our 'Trick or Treaters welcome' poster, available in colour, black and white, and as a colouring page.

For kids

* Always trick or treat with a parent, guardian, or responsible adult.

* Stick to familiar areas and only haunt friendly houses with lights on or a 'trick-or-treaters welcome' sign.

* Cross at pedestrian crossings and never run across the road.

* Wear something reflective or carry a torch/glow stick to be easily seen.

For parents and carers

* Choose known, well-lit streets and avoid busy traffic areas.

* Supervise closely, especially with younger children or large groups.

* Check costumes for safety-ensure masks don't block vision and costumes fit well to prevent trips.

* Keep pets secure as excited trick-or-treaters can spook animals.

* Remind kids to stop, look, listen, and think before crossing the road.

Not trick-or-treating?

* Slow down if you're driving on Halloween night, there are witches at play!

* If you don't want trick-or-treaters, leave your lights off or use our 'no trick-or-treaters' sign available in colour, black and white, and as a colouring page.

Remember to have fun, be safe and respect those who may or may not be participating this Halloween.
