BRISBANE, Queensland, Oct. 9 -- The Queensland Department of the Premier and Cabinet issued text of the following statement:

Minister for Housing and Public Works and Minister for Youth

The Honourable Sam O'Connor

* Crisafulli Government delivers 30 new homes in Southport for vulnerable senior Gold Coasters. * The new homes will help older women,Queenslanders with disability and seniors living in social housing looking to downsize. * 543 social and affordable homes now underway across the Gold Coast, as part of the Crisafulli Government's record $5.7 billion investment over four years to build social and community housing across Queensland to repair Labor's Housing Crisis.

The Crisafulli Government is delivering more places to call home on the Gold Coast, after a decade of decline under Labor, with 30 newly completed homes inSouthport welcoming new residents.

The former Labor Government created the housing crisis during their decade of decline, which saw housing approvals fall by 36 per cent across Queensland, rents skyrocket almost 60 per cent and the social housing register grow by almost 80 per cent.

Named 'Skyline View', these 27 social homes and three specialist disability homes will be run by Community Housing Limited (CHL).

The 30-home development provides modern and accessible housing for older women, people with disability and seniors living in social housing looking to downsize.

The new homes add to a record pipeline of social and affordable housing being delivered across the Gold Coast.

The 30-home development comes as work continues on other housing projects across Southport, including the Crisafulli Government's 213-home Southport Supportive Housing Project, which will provide social and affordable homes alongside onsite support services.

While Labor added an average of just 509 social homes a year across the state, the Crisafulli Government is on track to deliver four times as many per year by 2028.

The Crisafulli Government is supercharging supply by investing a record $5.725 billion over four years to build new social and community housing across Queensland.

Across Queensland more than 7,000 social and affordable homes are now under construction or contracted for delivery, part of the 11,205 social and community homes either delivered or underway towards the Government's target of 53,500 by 2044.

Minister for Housing and Public Works Sam O'Connor said the new homes would provide greater security and independence for older Gold Coasters.

"These 30 new homes mean more of our most vulnerable Gold Coasters have a safe, secure and appropriate place to call home," Minister O'Connor said.

"They've been designed with the needs of older Queenslanders and people with disability in mind, helping our new residents live more independently and stay connected to their community.

"For seniors looking to downsize, moving into a home that better suits their needs can also free up larger social homes for families who need the extra space.

"We're proud to be delivering for our city because for too long the Gold Coast was overlooked by a Brisbane-focussed Labor Government who wanted housing headlines not homes for Queenslanders.

"Our record $5.725 billion investment in social and community housing is building the pipeline Queensland needs, with more than 7,000 social and affordable homes now underway across the State."

Member for Southport Rob Molhoek said the 30 new homes were a welcome addition for the local community.

"These new homes will give more Gold Coasters a safe, secure and appropriate place to call home," Mr Molhoek said.

"They've been designed to support older Queenslanders and people with disability to live independently and stay connected to their community.

"It's fantastic to see more social housing being delivered right here in Southport for people who need it most."
